An unidentified man was shot and killed at 11 p.m. while sitting in the driver’s seat of a car, authorities said. Police Cpl. Tommy Stubbs, in a news release Thursday, said that detectives are still working to identify the victim. Police arrest pairin cellphone thefts Baton Rouge police on Thursday arrested two men accused of robbing two women on Jan. 8 of their personal cellphones and four phones they intended to sell. Police booked Jarven Jackson, 22, 3141 Anita St., Baton Rouge, into Parish Prison on one count of principal to armed robbery and Ralph Griffin, 21, 5103 Shelley St., Baton Rouge, on one count of armed robbery, according to affidavit warrants. The victims picked up Jackson so he could take them to a place where they could sell four iPhones, the warrants say, but before they could leave, Griffin showed up and expressed an interest in buying the phones. Jackson got out of the vehicle when Griffin, whom Jackson had vouched for, got in, the warrants say. Griffin acted like he would buy the iPhones, pulled out an empty wallet, then pulled out a handgun and demanded the four phones plus the victims’ personal phones, the warrants say. Ex-boyfriend accused in break-in, assault Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Baton Rouge man accused of breaking into an ex-girlfriend’s trailer on Jan. 13, biting her hand and punching her in the head. Anthony James Dunn Jr., 30, 7045 Meadow Park, Ave., was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of home invasion and simple battery, an affidavit warrant says. The victim told police her child was in the bedroom with her when Dunn tried to climb into a bedroom window of her trailer. He bit her on the hand when she tried closing the window, grabbed her hair and punched her in the back of the head, the warrant says. Two dogs perish in Erie Street fire Baton Rouge firefighters said a flammable object too close to a space heater ignited a house fire at 6:07 a.m. Thursday on Erie Street that killed two family dogs. The heat from the fire was so intense that it melted the front end of a 2001 Pontiac parked in front of the home at 3045 Erie St., according to a Fire Department news release. The residents escaped unharmed, but the house is considered a total loss, the release states. Parents booked with cruelty to juveniles The parents of a 2-month-old girl hospitalized with multiple skull fractures and bleeding around the brain have each been booked into parish prison on one count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles. Baton Rouge police questioned the story that Jontrel Major, 23, and Jasmine Hastings, 22, both of 1900 Blount Road, No. 235, told about the girl’s injuries. Major said he was not watching the infant when she rolled off a sofa on Feb. 1, and that he waited to bring her to the hospital because he didn’t know what to do and wanted to wait until Hastings got home from school, the warrants say. Hastings put the date of the incident as Jan. 31, the affidavits state. Major eventually brought his daughter to Our Lady of the Lake Pediatric Emergency Unit and said the doctors found nothing wrong, the warrants say. Major said he and Hastings were advised by the girl’s primary care physician on Feb. 8 to bring her back to the OLOL emergency room, where they learned the 2-month-old had multiple skull fractures and bleeding around the brain, the warrants say. Seven arrested on suspicion of DWI Authorities arrested at least seven people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. Thursday, booking records show. Those booked and the counts against them: Alena Chester, 47, 2110 Popps Ferry, No. A2, Biloxi, Miss., first-offense DWI, following too close and reckless operation of a vehicle. Lacey Holden, 24, 4213 Lewis Ave., Denham Springs, first-offense DWI, improper lane usage, driver’s license suspended/revoked and equipment violation. David Itzep Vicente, 21, 3030 Congress Blvd., Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, speeding, driver’s license suspended/revoked and reckless operation of a vehicle. Damon Morgan, 36, 5642 Alexander Lane, Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, improper left/right turns and reckless operation of a vehicle. Patrick Morris, 24, 1800 Oventon Park Ave., Memphis, Tenn., first-offense DWI and speeding.
