Brusly man accused of extortion

A former assistant chief of police for the Brusly Police Department was arrested Sunday after he allegedly threatened to post obscene photos of a woman on the Internet, Police Chief Jamie Whaley said Monday.

Thomas Charleville, 50, 328 St. Mary St., Brusly, was arrested at his home at 1:50 p.m. Sunday after he allegedly threatened to expose a relationship he was having with a woman, Whaley said.

Whaley said Charleville also told the victim he would post the photos on a social media website if she didn’t come to his job and perform a sexual act. Whaley did not say where Charleville is working.

Whaley said Brusly police arrested Charleville after the victim reported the incident. Charleville was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail on counts of improper telephone communication and extortion.

Whaley said Charleville worked for the Brusly Police Department for about 8 years.
