Woman held in smuggling attempt at Angola

A New Orleans woman remained in the West Feliciana Parish Jail on Monday after her arrest on drug counts at Louisiana State Penitentiary, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.

Maj. Archer Lee said Sharon T. Richards, 41, 2618 Elder St., was booked on five felony counts after she attempted to enter the Angola prison with quantities of heroin, marijuana, Dilaudid and Oxycontin concealed on her person.

Richards was booked with introduction of contraband into a penal institution and counts of possession with intent to distribute each of the four drugs found on her, Lee said.

Richards’ bail had not been set Monday afternoon, Lee said.
