Advocate staff report Feb. 09, 2013 Comments Several schools in the Baton Rouge area celebrated Mardi Gras early on Friday with parades geared toward students, parents, guardians, faculty and staff. More parades for the general public are scheduled for Saturday through Tuesday, including the Spanish Town Parade in downtown Baton Rouge on Saturday. In observance of Mardi Gras, city-parish offices and state offices will be closed Tuesday. The East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court’s Office and district courts will be closed Tuesday. Federal courts are open on Tuesday. Baton Rouge City Court will be closed Tuesday. Garbage and recyclables will be collected Tuesday. The North landfill will be open Tuesday. East Baton Rouge Parish public libraries will be closed Tuesday. Capital Area Transit System buses will run a Saturday schedule on Tuesday. East Baton Rouge Parish public schools will be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge schools will be closed on different days. Check the school’s website. Baton Rouge Community College will not hold classes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. LSU will not hold classes Monday and Tuesday and will resume classes at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Southern University will not hold classes Monday or Tuesday. Classes will resume Wednesday. Many banks will be closed Tuesday.
