Head-on crash in Assumption Parish kills two

Vehicle crosses center line on La. 1 near parish lines

Two Thibodaux residents died in a head-on collision shortly after 7 p.m. Friday on La. 1 in Assumption Parish near the Lafourche Parish line, a state police spokesman said.

A 2001 Ford Expedition driven by Janay Starks, 25, was traveling north on La. 1 when it crossed the center line and struck a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Milton Duet, 65, who was southbound on La. 1, spokesman Trooper Evan Harrell said in a news release.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene by officials at the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office, Harrell said. He said both were wearing seat belts.

A passenger in the Expedition, Miguel Reid, 29, of Houma, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with critical injuries, Harrell said.

Alcohol use is suspected as a factor in the crash and toxicology tests are pending, Harrell said.

The crash is still under investigation, Harrell said.
