EBR council OKs relocating residents

The East Baton Rouge Metro council voted Wednesday to approve relocating Scotlandville residents living next to a sewer plant in north Baton Rouge.

The estimated cost of the relocation is $6 million.

In other action, the council voted to eliminate council committee meetings on first and third Wednesdays.

I suppose this probably will come out of sewer fees since I believe the sewer sales tax is pretty much dedicated to paying off sewer bond debt.. I thought fees were supposed to be payment for a service. What service will we get for this for our fee. Although I am somewhat neutral about this decision, I think the $6 million should come from the general fund, perhaps from one of those local pet projects that we spend $millions on with little benefit. Perhaps they could convert the homes to a greenway area and get some of that "free" federal money. Yes , call it sarcasm.
