Bar flap leads to assistant coach’s arrest

An assistant coach for the LSU women’s basketball team was arrested Jan. 12 and accused of drunkenly yelling at a police officer at a Third Street bar in downtown Baton Rouge, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Anthony “Tony” Perotti, 6810 Jefferson Highway, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of entering or remaining after being forbidden and disturbing the peace by intoxication.

A security guard at City Bar, 333 Third St., flagged down a police officer at 2:15 a.m. after Perotti began cursing at him, the affidavit says. The officer spoke with Perotti, who appeared to be “intoxicated and belligerent,” the affidavit says.

Perotti argued with the officer as the officer told him to leave the bar, the affidavit says.

The officer finally arrested Perotti after repeatedly telling him to leave, the affidavit says.

Bill Martin, spokesman for the LSU women’s basketball team, said the school was well aware of the allegations against Perotti and would have no further comment because it is an ongoing legal matter.

Martin said Perotti has been present for all of LSU’s games and practices since the incident, including Sunday’s home game against Vanderbilt and Tuesday’s practice. LSU head coach Nikki Caldwell and Perotti also declined comment.

A native of Millerton, N.Y., Perotti, 36, came with Caldwell from UCLA in 2011 along with her other two assistants there, Tasha Butts and Stacie Terry.

Perotti served under Caldwell for her three seasons at UCLA, in 2008-11. He was an assistant coach at Northern Arizona, from 2004-08, and at the University of San Francisco, from 1999-2004.

Perotti received a graduate degree from San Francisco after earning his undergraduate degree from Tennessee in 1999.

Caldwell played at Tennessee and served as a graduate assistant coach there at the time.

LOL. Geez, Louise. He is a typical New York "Guido" type who has made himself right at home in the white trash redneck alcohol culture of south Louisiana. Yeee-haw! The only other place he would be so at home would be in the cast of "Jersey Shore" with Snooki and the rest of the crew.

anyone remember the name Bobby Petrino ? redavaw1 , what bars are on third street ? I enjoy cold draft and pizza at one establishment , tipping an occasional pint at an irish pub , live entertainment at a couple of venues , seafood at others . 'We all know what bars are on third street' , apparently you don't ...

The man made a mistake. He was stupid in arguing with a cop but let's not blow this out of proportion by making this a metaphor of everything you think is wrong at LSU. Yes, coaches do get in trouble from time to time all over the states. This is not isolated to LSU. Think about the tens of thousands of men and women who coach at the collegiate level. With such a large national population of coaches, you are bound to have one idiot get in trouble every now and then. It just so happens to be a coach from LSU this time

We all know what bars are on third street. His blushing pic says it all.

@Tally; coaches (and players) don't act like this in other states. There might be an isolated incident sometimes, but it is dealt with harshly. The (redneck) culture here is - if its LSU sports, its okay. Especially if being drunk and stupid is involved. I'm sure the players and faithful LSU fans think he is a hero.

Get rid of him Nikki!! I know of someone who would love to replace him. Disgraceful.

He is acting just like the players. Why is anybody shocked?

What's with LSU athletics? Do they think they can go pub crawling and get away with this on a regular basis? Do athletes and their coaches act this this all over the States?

Good job Anthony. LSU Athletics needs a few more black eyes. By the way, that shade of blush on you looks exquisite. Im sure they loved you in Parish Prison, doll.
