VITA tax preparation Different branches of the Livingston Parish Library will host free tax preparation for participants with an income limit of $50,000 for 2012. Those who qualify should bring their tax documents such as W-2s, 1099s and information for deductions and credits along with a copy of last year’s tax return and a Social Security card for all people living in the home. Those interested may also bring proof of a bank account for direct deposit, organizers said. Volunteers will prepare most simple returns, but more complicated returns will not be processed. Co-sponsored by Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and the Internal Revenue Service, this program is by appointment only at the following dates and times: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Jan. 29 at the Livingston branch; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Denham Springs-Walker branch; and 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Albany-Springfield branch. Genealogy 101 Genealogy 101, an introduction for amateur family history enthusiasts, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Livingston Branch of the Livingston Parish Library. Participants can learn about the process of starting genealogical research, resources, types of needed documents, and how to keep it all organized, organizers said. Beginner art classes The Arts Council of Livingston Parish, 133 Hummell St., Denham Springs, will offer beginner drawing and painting classes for ages 16 and older from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 1, Feb. 8 and Feb. 15.
