Man surrenders to police in shootings of 2 teens
One teenager brain dead, another wounded in the back
A Baton Rouge man wanted in a shooting that left a 15-year-old boy brain dead and wounded a 19-year-old man surrendered to authorities Friday, authorities said.
Deaundre M. Williams, 20, 6545 Nottingham St., was booked on counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.
The 15-year-old victim — identified in a warrant as Enrico Green — was shot in the head and pronounced brain dead Thursday, McKneely said. Doctors planned to conduct another series of tests on the boy Friday, he said.
McKneely has said authorities could issue the murder warrant for Williams even though the boy had not died.
McKneely said Friday that to his knowledge, no other arrests have been made.
Kequaniel Green, Enrico’s older brother, said his brother loved riding dirt bikes and 4-wheelers, and hanging out and joking around with friends.
Kequaniel Green said his family kept his younger brother on life support because they hoped doctors would be able to do something to change the diagnosis and give the family better news.
According to the affidavit warrant, Williams was an acquaintance of Green and the 19-year-old victim and was “engaged in a general conversation” with them just before 2 a.m. near a house in the 1800 block of 71st Street.
The three apparently were arguing over an incident that occurred about two weeks ago, McKneely said.
The warrant says Williams “noticed Green was distracted by a telephone call and removed a handgun from his pants.
The accused then pointed the handgun toward Green’s head and fired the handgun at close range.”
Green fell to the ground, the warrant says, while the 19-year-old tried to run away.
Williams then fired at the 19-year-old, striking him in the lower back, the warrant says. The 19-year-old victim, who is expected to recover from injuries, implicated Williams in the shooting and identified him in a six-person photo lineup, according to the warrant.
