Baton Rouge man dies in St. Helena car crash Baton Rouge man dies in St. Helena car crash Advocate staff report Jan. 18, 2013 Comments MONTPELIER — State Police identified a man killed in a single-vehicle wreck on La. 16 in southeastern St. Helena Parish as David Fontenot Jr., 33, of Baton Rouge. Shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday, Fontenot’s sport utility vehicle drifted off the road about a half-mile west of the boundary between St. Helena and Tangipahoa parishes, State Police said in a news release. When the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee left the highway, it spun and traveled about 250 feet along the grassy shoulder, hit a parked John Deere bulldozer and overturned, troopers said. Fontenot, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner’s Office, according to the news release. Impairment is unknown and toxicology reports are pending, State Police said.
