Pennington donates $1.5 million for children’s museum

A children’s museum planned for BREC’s City-Brooks Park has received a $1.5 million donation from the Irene W. and C.B. Pennington Foundation, officials with the nonprofit organization that is pursuing the project announced Friday.

The donation completes the building phase of fundraising which totaled $6 million, according to a news release from the Knock Knock Children’s Museum.

Organizers will now begin soliciting sponsors for the museum’s individual exhibits, estimated at $5 million, the release says.

Knock Knock Children’s Museum is a private nonprofit organization raising money to build the children’s museum for children from birth to 8 years old.

This is great -except for the fact that I still have not figured out exactly what a children's museum really is or why one is needed. Is it an expensive closed in play ground? Sorry, I just do not get it.
