Police search for Alexandria man in Baton Rouge death

Baton Rouge police say they are looking for a 30-year-old man accused in the Thursday shooting death of a man on Hollywood Street.

Ruben Van Dyke, 30, 425 Wilson St., Alexandria, is wanted in the death of Brannon Counts, 32, 5690 N. Howell St., police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said in a news release.

Van Dyke is wanted on counts of first-degree murder and illegal use of a dangerous weapon, McKneely said.

Counts was shot in the parking lot of 5701 Hollywood St. at 5:10 p.m. Thursday during a fight over a drug transaction, McKneely said.

After being shot, Counts sped in a car and traveled through a grassy field at the corner of Hollywood Street and McClelland Avenue, McKneely has said.

Counts’ vehicle crashed into a backyard fence of a nearby home, McKneely has said. Counts died at the scene.

Dyke was last scene fleeing the area in a white convertible Chrysler Sebring with a black roof, McKneely said.
