Man found dead in car near Hollywood

A man was found shot to death Thursday evening inside a car that rolled into a field near the corner of Hollywood Crossover Street and McClelland Drive, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely Jr., a police spokesman.

The car was traveling southwest on Hollywood Street at about 5:10 p.m. when it suddenly veered off the road and rolled about 80 to 100 yards into a grassy field before it crashed into a fence behind a house, McKneely said.

McKneely said he did not know how many times the victim had been shot.

Investigators believe there was an altercation that led to the shooting in a shopping center parking lot at 5701 Hollywood Crossover St., McKneely said.

McKneely said he’s not sure whether the victim was shot during the argument or as he drove away.

Police towed the car.

“We believe everything we need to have is inside the vehicle,” McKneely said.
