Baton Rouge judge orders recount of some CCC ballots Baton Rouge judge orders recount of some CCC ballots Joe Gyan and Allen Powell II | Advocate staff writers Jan. 06, 2013 Comments A Baton Rouge judge has ordered a hand recount of all absentee-by-mail and early-voting ballots cast in Orleans Parish on a proposition to extend tolls on the Crescent City Connection bridge in New Orleans for another 20 years. The proposition on the Nov. 6 ballot in Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes passed by just 16 votes. More than 308,000 ballots were cast by voters. State District Judge William Morvant’s Dec. 28 order came 10 days after a grassroots group — StopTheTolls.org — filed a lawsuit in the 19th Judicial District Court challenging the results of the election. The group is opposed to the tolls on the CCC. The suit alleged that the handling, timing and transmittal of the early-voting and mail-in ballots from Orleans Parish on the night of the election were irregular and highly suspect.
