Jan 9, 2013 16:14 Pedestrian struck, killed in Livingston Parish Pedestrian struck, killed in Livingston Parish Advocate staff report Jan. 09, 2013 Comments A 69-year-old pedestrian was killed Wednesday night on La. 16 near Eastover Boulevard in Livingston Parish when he was struck by a van, State Police said. The incident occurred shortly after 7:15 p.m. when Kenneth Paola Jr. was traveling west on La. 16 in a 2006 van, Trooper Jared L. Sandifer said. At the same time, John L. Barker, 69, of Denham Springs, was crossing the highway and walked directly into the path of Paola’s van, Sandifer said. Paola attempted to avoid hitting Barker, Sandifer said, but was unable to do so. Troopers suspect impairment on the part of Barker to have been a factor in the crash, Sandifer said, and have submitted a toxicology sample to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Impairment on the part of Paola is not suspected, Sandifer said.
