Detectives seek thief in pharmacy heist

Ascension Parish Sheriff’s detectives are searching for a man who stole prescription medication from a Walgreens pharmacy on Dec. 6.

While a delivery driver was inside, an unidentified man was seen with his vehicle backed up to the delivery trailer stealing medication, Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley said in a news release. A witness described the vehicle as a newer model tan or beige four-door GMC Sierra, the release stated.

The witness did not obtain a license plate number, but told authorities the truck had fender flares, factory rims and tinted windows. The store’s surveillance equipment caught the suspect fleeing the scene, the release said. The driver was last seen leaving Walgreens in Geismar, traveling at a high rate of speed down La. 73, then turning onto Cornerview Road heading towards Gonzales.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 621-4636 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
