3 teens arrested in decorations vandalism

Three teenagers have been arrested following an investigation into the vandalism of Christmas decorations in the Old Dutchtown Subdivision.

Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley said in a news release that the three suspects were identified from an anonymous tip after 18 homes in the neighborhood suffered vandalism of their Christmas decorations, including one home that had a $35,000 display destroyed.

Roarke Dunn, 17, and Rendell Reid, no age given, who both live in an apartment complex at 13170 Dutchtown Point Ave., in Geismar, were arrested Thursday by Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives.

The third suspect, Adam Dellucci, 17, 5274 Chotau Road, Brusly, was arrested on Thursday in Brusly and transported to Ascension Parish Jail, Wiley said.

All three teens were booked on 19 counts of criminal trespass, 18 counts of misdemeanor criminal damage to property and one count each of criminal mischief and felony criminal damage to property.

“While this type of senseless crime shocks the conscience of everyone who cares about personal property and the Christmas season, this crime also served as a catalyst for the affected neighborhood to come together and do what neighbors should do, which is help each other out,” Wiley said.

are seventeen year olds treated as adults or as juveniles in a court of law? does it depend on the crime?

Your right Woody there will be nothing in their punishments to make them quiver the next time they see Christmas decorations. Like thugs and people living on government assistance, teens do no own anything, therefore they do not respect anything. If I were the judge, they would get a ten day sentenence for each count, 1500 hours minimum on a road crew (working every Saturday and Sunday while in school) and 6 days a week during the summer. Then once out of school and working, they would make full restitution including interest to the victums. I bet they don't get anything close to this. We need more severe punishments!!! Just think, if there was a $10,000 for litering (first offense), no one would throw anything out of their vehicles. It just wouldn't be worth the risk.

i am sure at their age of seventeen there is no realistic expectation for meaningful punishment.
