Scott Kushner| Special to The Advocate Nov. 28, 2012 Comments Tulane University announced a press conference today at 1 p.m. in the Wilson Center and is expected to announce its entry into the Big East conference as a full member starting in 2014. The Associated Press is quoting anonymous sources as saying that East Carolina will join the conference for football only. The Green Wave is a charter member of Conference USA, joining upon its inception in 1996. East Carolina also plays in Conference USA. Fellow Conference USA members Memphis, SMU, Central Florida and Houston are each set to leave the league for the Big East after this after this season. The Big East recently suffered defections by Syracuse and Pittsburgh for the ACC, along with Rutgers for the Big Ten, opening up spots for the Conference USA migration.
