Bastrop man struck, killed by car

BASTROP — Police say a Bastrop man died when he was struck by a car as he stood alongside a road in Morehouse Parish.

The pedestrian, 51-year-old Billy Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision late Saturday.

The Louisiana State Police says a 58-year-old Bastrop woman was driving north on U.S. 165 when her vehicle struck Smith.

The crash remained under investigation, but alcohol wasn’t suspected to be a factor.
