Turkey Bowl features youth football teams

The Lafayette Parish Recreation and Parks Department will hold its 61st annual Turkey Bowl on Saturday and Sunday at Clark Field featuring the top teams from the Youth Football Leagues in the bid for parish champion.

Here’s a schedule of the match-ups:

Saturday: 10U Flag Football League’s CSA Titans versus CSA Tigers, 9 a.m.; Niner League’s CSA White versus CAYSI, 10 a.m.; the Mite League’s BPA Saints versus BPA Falcons, noon; the Junior League’s BPA versus CAYSI, 2 p.m.

Sunday: the Senior League’s BPA versus CAYSI, 4 p.m.

Admission is $4 for adults. No outside food or drinks are allowed in the stadium. Concessions proceeds benefit the Lafayette Kiwanis Club.

SLCC intersession enrollment open

Enrollment is open for South Louisiana Community College’s six online courses being offered during the winter intersession.

The four-week semester begins on Dec. 17 and concludes Jan. 11. The three-credit courses include: GBUS 1010, MCIS 1005, Psych 2010, and English 1010, 1020 and 2070. The maximum course enrollment for this session is six hours.

The college recommends that students be proficient in applications, such as Microsoft Word, and with computer basics, such as emailing attachments and uploading files. Students also should have computer and Internet access at home. Daily participation in the courses is necessary.

Veterans benefits event Saturday

Veterans can sign up for health benefits or receive benefits paperwork assistance from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Cajun Harley-Davidson, 724 Interstate 10 Frontage Road in Scott.

The Harley’s Heroes event is a partnership between the Disabled American Veterans and the Harley-Davidson Foundation, according to the DAV website. Through the partnership, the DAV Mobile Service Office schedule stops at Harley-Davidson dealerships across the country.

Veterans should provide DD-214s or any other discharge papers as proof of service.
