Advocate story Nov. 15, 2012 Comments The historic park of Vermilionville served as the history and social studies classroom Friday for about 150 Evangeline Elementary third-grade students and their teachers for the day, education majors from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, said Janet Pope, the Lafayette Parish school system’s new social studies and charter/voucher specialist. The school system also partnered with another ULL education class who work with eighth-grade students at Judice Middle, Pope said. Those students will visit Vermilionville for their lessons later this month, she said. The Bayou Vermilion District, which operates the living history park, also partnered with the project and provided funding to cover bus transportation for the students, Pope said.
