LAFAYETTE — A Lafayette man died Thursday night after he was stabbed in a 12th Street barbershop, Lafayette police said Friday.
The victim, Damien Watkins, 28, entered the barbershop — 12th Street Fades — in the 1100 block of 12th Street and began arguing with another man, police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release.
“The two men began fighting, at which time the suspect produced a sharp object and stabbed the victim in the rib cage,” Mouton said.
The assailant, whom police did not name, remains at large.
Watkins was transported to a hospital where died from his injuries, Mouton said.
Police responded to the scene at 8 p.m. Thursday, and about 90 minutes later, officers arrested two men suspected of firing gunshots from a vehicle near Magnolia Street and Pinhook Road in retaliation for Watkins death, Mouton said.
The men were in a white vehicle that officers saw speed away from the area, Mouton said.
Police pulled the vehicle over at Moss and Alexander streets, and one suspect ran away, Mouton said.
Trinity Kilchrist and Nicholas Richard, no addresses given, were arrested and booked on counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, Mouton said.
The case remains under investigation, Mouton said.
