Police respond
to campus shooting

Police are investigating reports of gunshots on the LSU-Eunice campus early Thursday morning, according to Eunice police.

No injuries were reported, and no one has been arrested in the case, Eunice Police Deputy Chief Varden Guillory Sr. said.

Officers responded to the campus at 1:40 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired and returned 30 minutes later when another round was reported, Guillory said.

Officers stopped three vehicles in the area, police said.

A passenger in one of the vehicles fled into a nearby neighborhood and was not found, police said.

No weapons were recovered from any vehicles, but bullet casings were found on campus, police said.

Guillory said police interviewed witnesses who were in the area, but it remained unclear why the shots were fired.
