Hammond man arrested in Natalbany shooting
NATALBANY — A Hammond man has been booked with second-degree battery following a shooting in the Natalbany area, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office began investigating the shooting Tuesday after receiving information from a medical center that a gunshot victim had checked himself into the emergency room, sheriff’s spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in a news release.
The 33-year-old victim, whose identity was not released, was under treatment at a medical center in New Orleans, Panepinto said.
Detectives learned that Joseph Meche Jr., 54, no address provided, had gotten into an argument with another man, Panepinto said.
During the argument, Meche allegedly armed himself with a shotgun and fired a single shot at the other man, striking him in a leg, Panepinto said.
Detectives entered Meche’s home with a search warrant around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, then arrested him, Panepinto said.
