3 arrested in underage drinking at party
ST. AMANT — Deputies arrested a woman and two teenagers after a Halloween party at a parish government facility in St. Amant became marred by underage drinking and fighting, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.
Donna Boeta, 42, 11340 W. Paula St., St. Amant, had rented the St. Amant Recreation Center on Stringer Bridge Road for a Saturday night party thrown by a 17-year-old girl who is a family friend. The girl had sold bracelets to youths at her school good for admittance to the party, according to the report.
As part of the rental contract, Sheriff Jeff Wiley said in a news release, Boeta agreed to purchase an insurance policy and provide security at the party. However, authorities learned that security was not present, and Boeta had to leave the party in response to a family emergency, Wiley said.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene after a fight broke out, but by then, most of the partygoers had left the scene. Deputies, however, found evidence of alcohol at the facility and received reports that a gun may have been brandished and someone might have been stabbed.
Investigators had difficulty identifying most of the people in attendance, Wiley said. Limited information was available from the adults and minors interviewed, and information pertaining to the knife and gun was unsubstantiated, he said.
Desmond Price, 19, 5171 Wildwood Drive, Sorrento, confessed to authorities that he consumed alcohol at the party and was “jumped” by an unknown individual, the sheriff said. Deputies arrested Price and booked him on a count of alcohol possession under the age of 21.
Deputies arrested and booked a 16-year-old boy from Gonzales with alcohol possession under the age of 21. The boy told investigators he was sucker-punched at the party, Wiley said.
Deputies arrested Boeta on a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, the sheriff said.
Wiley said he was disappointed in the adults who allowed the party to take place and get out of control, adding, “We will not tolerate adults promoting and hosting parties where underage drinking will take place.”
