3 arrested in underage drinking at party

Deputies arrested a woman and two teenagers after a Halloween party at a parish government facility in St. Amant became marred by underage drinking and fighting, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.

Donna Boeta, 42, 11340 W. Paula St., St. Amant, had rented the St. Amant Recreation Center on Stringer Bridge Road for a Saturday night party thrown by a 17-year-old girl who is a family friend. The girl had sold bracelets to youths at her school good for admittance to the party, according to the report.

As part of the rental contract, Sheriff Jeff Wiley said in a news release, Boeta agreed to purchase an insurance policy and provide security at the party. However, authorities learned that security was not present, and Boeta had to leave the party in response to a family emergency, Wiley said.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene after a fight broke out, but by then, most of the partygoers had left the scene. Deputies, however, found evidence of alcohol at the facility and received reports that a gun may have been brandished and someone might have been stabbed.

Investigators had difficulty identifying most of the people in attendance, Wiley said. Limited information was available from the adults and minors interviewed, and information pertaining to the knife and gun was unsubstantiated, he said.

Desmond Price, 19, 5171 Wildwood Drive, Sorrento, confessed to authorities that he consumed alcohol at the party and was “jumped” by an unknown individual, the sheriff said. Deputies arrested Price and booked him on a count of alcohol possession under the age of 21.

Deputies arrested and booked a 16-year-old boy from Gonzales with alcohol possession under the age of 21. The boy told investigators he was sucker-punched at the party, Wiley said.

Deputies arrested Boeta on a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, the sheriff said.

Wiley said he was disappointed in the adults who allowed the party to take place and get out of control, adding, “We will not tolerate adults promoting and hosting parties where underage drinking will take place.”

Since the woman did not comply with having security at this party then the RESPONSIBLE thing to do would have been to call off the party when she was called away on this so called "family emergency" which I HIGHLY doubt was the reason she left the party. She had to provide a reason why she left and the cops or authorities should make her provide the proof of this "family emergency." She should also be charged for not abiding by the contract and having security at this party.

@tradewinns.. please re-read my comment, I said I am sure she knew (didn't say for certain) it's my opinion. But let's keep it real... the "adult" and also the other adults at the party were well aware that alcohol was being served because this is how they roll. I am not judging her or anyone else there. My issues with this article is them posting ONLY the 19 yr old's picture. But again we know why his picture is the only one posted!!!!

how do all of you "know" the woman knew alchol was going to be consumed at the party? the article states she was called away by a family emergency. perhaps if that had not happened she would have been able to control the situation. let's see what evidence the law has on this.

I understand that this young man was arrested as well as minor and a adult female. I can understand why the minor's picture was not on the website, but why wasn't the adult picture not posted as well? Her picture was on TV, so I already know the answer to that question!!! She was the person responsible for booking the party and I am sure she knew that alchohol would be served there, as this is normally how "these" types of parties are given. I know this young man and the media is trying to portray him as if he was the ONLY person under 21 drinking, which is not so. His name was given by "folks" who were at the party who were probably drinking as well. I normally do not comment on any stories but I have been "portrayed" by the media before as well as my family members and I know personally how they "make it seem" like it's something it's not. I just think that if you are going to post pictures, post pictures of all adults involved!!!!

For a 19 year old man to be arrested for alcohol possession is absurd. That's a really bad law. He can serve in the armed forces. He can become a police officer. But, he can't have a beer?!! Good grief!!
