Why does The Advocate no longer publish road closures every day?

The Advocate is now running the listing of East Baton Rouge Parish road closures and ongoing construction work inside Sunday’s South Louisiana section to make space for more news Monday through Saturday.

The change went into effect Monday.

Editors made a similar decision several years ago with the school lunch menus for both public and private schools in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Readers will continue to see stories about major road construction, such as the road work going on in the southeast part of the parish, as that information is updated and projects are completed.

Readers who need information about road work in East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes also can visit the websites of their respective parishes’ public works offices or call those offices. In East Baton Rouge Parish, residents may call the Department of Public Works at (225) 389-3158 or visit http://www.brgov.com/dept/dpw. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Readers who need information about construction on interstates and state highways in East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes also may visit the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s website at http://www.dotd.la.gov, email dotdcs@la.gov, or call DOTD’s Customer Service Center at (225) 379-1232 or 1-877-4LADOTD (1-877-452-3683). Business hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Another fine example why The Advocate should not have went into the paper business in New Orleans. They starve us to feed New Orleans and Lafayette. Run out of space? why heck look at the size of your "rag" sometimes it is hard to judge it by size from the soap opera rags at the cash register.

Road closures are relevant news. I'm sure you could pick one of your 100 articles and maybe have it cut down a hundred or so words to make room for the stuff everyone is concerned about.

If you need more space for news, why are you running this stupid "Ask the Advocate" feature that never as any news in it?

So you are running road closures on Sundays only "to make room for more news Monday tuhrough Saturday"? What news? What could possibly be more important that closing down roads? More of your slanted, half-baked poltical coverage? More on your relentless attacks on Governor Jindal and other political figures? This is just another reason not to buy your product!
