Woman booked in shooting, killing of other woman at St. Helena truck stop

An Amite woman accused of killing another woman with a shotgun blast at a St. Helena Parish truck stop has been arrested and booked with second-degree murder, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Stacey Self, 42, 3799 Leonard Chapel Road, allegedly shot Jamilia Smith, 25, in the back of the head after Smith and Self’s daughter got into an argument Tuesday night in the parking lot of Tall Timbers on La. 16, Chief of Detectives Joe Chaney said Wednesday.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, Chaney said.

“There was a whole group of young females up there who got in an altercation. It’s unclear what started it all, and our investigation is ongoing,” he said.

The call came in through 911 around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Chaney said. He could not say who made the call.

Self remained in jail Wednesday evening, Chaney said.

Several other young women involved in the altercation also were arrested, Chaney said, but neither Chaney nor jail personnel provided the names of those arrested.

I wish The Advocate when editing stories would leave the original article up and simply add paragraphs as updated news becomes available instead of removing what passed for a news report at first.

i wish the DA would explain what it takes for a charge of 1st degree murder. a shotgun blast to the back of the head doesn't sound like an accident.

Why settle things civilly when you can use a shotgun?

"Chaney said it had something to do with an argument or fight between the two women." Geez Chaney, ya think?
