Hammond woman shot during Sunday night fight
HAMMOND — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Hammond shooting that began as an argument over the telephone.
Jessica Pope, 22, of Morris Road in Hammond, drove to the Happywoods Road residence of Laquanta Jackson, 35, after the two argued on the phone shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in a news release Monday.
Pope, armed with a knife, confronted Jackson in her driveway, and the two got into an altercation, Panepinto said.
Jackson is accused of shooting Pope in the left shoulder, Panepinto said.
Pope was taken to New Orleans Medical Center, where she is in stable condition, Panepinto said.
Neither woman has been arrested, pending the outcome of the investigation, Panepinto said.
Sheriff’s deputies took both weapons used in the incident as evidence.
