Hammond woman shot during Sunday night fight

HAMMOND — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Hammond shooting that began as an argument over the telephone.

Jessica Pope, 22, of Morris Road in Hammond, drove to the Happywoods Road residence of Laquanta Jackson, 35, after the two argued on the phone shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in a news release Monday.

Pope, armed with a knife, confronted Jackson in her driveway, and the two got into an altercation, Panepinto said.

Jackson is accused of shooting Pope in the left shoulder, Panepinto said.

Pope was taken to New Orleans Medical Center, where she is in stable condition, Panepinto said.

Neither woman has been arrested, pending the outcome of the investigation, Panepinto said.

Sheriff’s deputies took both weapons used in the incident as evidence.

I agree with you @raised.on.robbery. Bouncer's first comment was out of line, inappropriate, and shameful.

I think you inadvertently attributed all kinds of undue importance to me by typing that much and seemingly getting kind of aggravated. But I mean, that's ok, because I waste time on this website, too. On a serious note, I wonder if you even realize how unashamedly racist your first post came off. Maybe it's just so prevalent here that you and others don't even see it, which is that much more discouraging.

Both of these woman acted irresponsibly and do not set a good example for younger folks. Role models? Hardly!

OK, you got me, Bouncer--you're some other older white guy in Baton Rouge who likes to post on The Advocate about his disdain for black people in Baton Rouge.

i can understand the animosity between the two. my cell died a natural death (it was ancient even by my standards). as my wife had no way to call me from work and give me more instrudtions on what to do today, i was really enjoying my retirement. of course the first thing she asked every day was "what did you do today?", to which i replied "nothing", and she'd boil. well yesterday was my last day of "summer", she purchased me another cell. today wasn't near as much fun as friday. i cain't get everything done between my naps, that's probably what happened to these two.
