LSU AgCenter opens model garden

The LSU AgCenter has opened a new garden to help teachers create school gardens.

The Model School and Children’s Garden is at the Burden Center in Baton Rouge, a 440-acre station where turfgrass, vegetable and fruit crops and ornamentals are evaluated for their growth in south Louisiana’s heat and humidity.

Vegetable specialist Kiki Fontenot said the new garden is intended for the enjoyment of children and families.

She said crops will change through the year, “so it could be a new garden every time you visit.”
