TECHE Project to hold park event
The Teche Ecology, Culture and History Education Project will present Shake Your Trail Feather from noon to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Parc des Ponts in Breaux Bridge.
The event is free but participants can buy Shake Your Trail Feather pins for $5. T-shirts from the TECHE Project also will be available for purchase.
Beer, beverages and food will be available for sale.
Participants can buy a $2 raffle ticket for a chance to win a kayak provided by Pack and Paddle.
All proceeds from the pins, T-shirts, raffle and beer sales will benefit the TECHE Project, which was started in 2009 to make Bayou Teche a healthier waterway for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, tubing and swimming.
The event will feature music by David Egan & 20 Years of Trouble, Roddie Romero and the Hub City All-stars, and BonSoir, Catin.
Bayou Teche Experience will provide free kayaking lessons for children from noon to 2 p.m.
Louisiana Folk Roots will host a heritage tent and speak with residents and members of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana who grew up on Bayou Teche.
The National Park Service will share information about the Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Bill Fontenot, naturalist and TECHE project councilman, will host a mini-workshop about using native plants to improve habitat.
Tour du Teche will share the success of the 2012 race and talk about the upcoming Spring bike tour along Bayou Teche.
Transportation and Recreational Alternatives in Louisiana will be on hand to discuss the Attakapas-Ishak multipurpose trail and the Lafayette Metropolitan Planning Organization will present renderings for the proposed trailhead in Breaux Bridge.
The Breaux Bridge Girl Scout troop will be selling food and sharing information about the Girl Scouts.
