Two arrested in EBR
on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least two people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:30 p.m. Monday, booking records show.
Those booked and the counts against them:
- Nelson Jasmin, 29, 3295 Dominio St., Vacherie, first-offense DWI, speeding and insurance required.
- Jessica Ruble, 26, 11011 Reiger Road, Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, headlights required and motor vehicle registration expired.
2 inmates arrested
on smuggling charge
State Police arrested two Dixon Correctional Institute inmates Monday accused of trying to smuggle synthetic marijuana into the facility, according to arrest warrants.
Brenden Lands, 29, 2221 Paterno, Richland, Calif., and Derrick Robertson, 32, 3157 Dougherty Drive, Baton Rouge, were both booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution.
Lands approached a corrections officer Oct. 2 and told him he would pay him $100 if the officer agreed to help smuggle the synthetic pot into the Jackson facility, the warrants say.
The officer told his supervisors, who in turn contacted the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office and State Police, the warrants said.
Lands gave the officer a phone number to call to set up a meeting to pick up four grams of synthetic pot, the warrants say.
The officer called the number and a woman answered, saying she had a package for Lands, the warrants said.
They agreed to meet Oct. 7 at a Wal-Mart in Baker where the officer picked up an envelope containing the synthetic marijuana, the warrants say.
State Police interviewed the woman Oct. 10, and she said she delivered the envelope on behalf of Robertson, who is her boyfriend, the warrants said.
Dixon officials later confirmed to State Police that Robertson had approached the same corrections officer about the synthetic marijuana, the warrants said.
Information was not available Monday as to why Lands and Robertson were serving time in Dixon.
BR youth arrested
in shooting of teen
A Baton Rouge teen was arrested Sunday and accused of shooting another teen in the back during an argument last week, an affidavit of probable cause says.
Isaiah Combs, 17, is accused of shooting a 16-year-old boy Thursday at 12501 Warfield St., the affidavit says.
The victim later identified Combs as his shooter, and told authorities that he and Combs had been feuding for the past year, the affidavit says.
One of Combs’ family members contacted authorities Sunday, saying he wanted to turn in Combs, the affidavit says.
Authorities arrested Combs after interviewing him and disproving his alibi, the affidavit says.
Combs, 1267 Cristy Drive, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of attempted second-degree murder.
