FuturePAC endorses council members, one challenger

Four incumbents and one challenger are among the six candidates for Metro Council to win the endorsement of FuturePAC, the political action committee of the Baton
Rouge Area Chamber, according to a news release issued Monday.

The incumbents include Donna Collins-Lewis in District 6, C. Denise Marcelle in District 7, Joel Boé in District 9 and Tara Wicker in District 10, the release says.

The group endorsed John Delgado over incumbent Rodney “Smokie” Bourgeois in the District 12 race.

Chauna Banks-Daniel, one of eight candidates vying for the District 2 seat being vacated by Ulysses “Bones” Addison, also earned the FuturePAC’s endorsement. Addison is term limited.

FuturePAC “actively supports candidates and issues that promote economic development” in the capital region, according to the release.

I guess you guys are equally outraged at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's involvement in political campaigns at all levels?

@ being stupid... Wow, true to your namesake. Are you saying that you agreed with the sell out of the neighborhood against almost ALL the residents by Mickie Skyring? You must not let your neighbors know, because they might would run you out of their area. We call people who betray their own Benedict Arnold. Hey, there is a cool screen name for you. Go Tigers

I agree with Newsreader and Phil. BRAC has NO BUSINESS being in the political process!!! As Phil indicates, there is already a conflict with them as they promote the city (paid by the city). So how can they be objective?? They have become a "big business" parrot, under the disguise of a chamber.

CORRECTED: I agree with Newsreader. Taxpayers pay taxes, and about $450,000 of that tax money goes to a BRAC affiliate. So if you look at it one way, taxpayers are actually paying BRAC to endorse candidates that the taxpayers might not support. Actually BRAC could possibly be supporting the candidates that the people who give the tax money to BRAC want to support. Sounds like a possible overall real conflict of interest situation to me.

I agree with BRAC's endorsement of John Delgado. Smokie definitely has to go. Although it doesn't seem to really matter if Delgado is elected instead. The person in charge of that Metro Council Seat will be whoever is president of the Southside Civic Gestapo. No District 12 Council Rep. will dare oppose them, except Mickey Skyring and we saw what happened to him.

BRAC needs to stay out of expressing opinions in political races. Particularly seeing as they have a relationship with the city-parish. PACs are going to be the downfall of our system.
