Plaquemines to start clearing debris

BELLE CHASSE — Plaquemines Parish officials said a contract has been signed to begin removal of debris left behind by Hurricane Isaac from levees.

The work will include Mississippi River levees and federal back levees. Crews are expected to begin work on both sides of the river starting Monday. Authorities estimate more than 60,000 cubic yards of debris will be collected from the levees.
