Ascension’s Alligator Bayou Road reopens to traffic

Alligator Bayou Road in Ascension Parish reopened for traffic Thursday afternoon, officials with East Ascension Gravity Drainage District No. 1 announced.

Bill Roux, the drainage district director, said work will continue on the Frog Bayou Lock located on Alligator Bayou Road, but the road has been reopened for traffic.

Parish officials announced in July that Alligator Bayou Road would be closed for 60 to 90 days to repair the Frog Bayou floodgate, which controls water flowing from Frog Bayou into Bayou Manchac.

Frog Bayou drains the Bluff Swamp in Ascension Parish, and the swamp abuts on residential areas along Bluff Road.
