  • HAUNTED HIKES: 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, 10503 N. Oak Hills Parkway. The fee is $6 per person and the event is open to all ages. Registration is not required. This program is an alternative to the commercial haunted houses. Participants learn about snakes, insects, rats and other “creepy critters” as they stop at educational stations along the trail. Staff members do not use scare tactics during this program and participants are welcome to come in costume if they choose. All participants should bring a flashlight.   • FALL TREE FOR ALL: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Burden Center on Essen Lane. Tree experts will be on hand to help shoppers choose from the dozens of varieties of flowering, fruiting and shade trees. One free ticket to the Burden Center’s Corn Maze will be given to anyone purchasing trees worth $20 or more. (225) 381-0037.
  • ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., BREC’s Farr Park Equestrian Center and RV Campground, 6402 River Road. Visitors can enjoy hay rides, walking tours, a petting zoo, face painting, concessions and musical riding demonstrations. Participants from Farr Park’s riding lessons will perform a horse show for guests featuring both western and English-style riding skills.
