Man arrested for bringing BB gun to football game
A 24-year-old Baton Rouge man was arrested Thursday and accused of pointing a BB gun at several children during a Southeast Middle School football game, an East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
The incident occurred at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the school’s football field on South Harrell’s Ferry Road, Casey Rayborn Hicks said.
Jeremy Jackson, 2152 Firewood Drive, attended the game with his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s son, who is a student at the school, Hicks said.
While watching the game, Jackson and a group of children got into an argument, Hicks said.
During the argument, Jackson pulled a BB gun from the waistband of his pants and pointed it at the kids, she said.
Jackson then handed the gun to his girlfriend’s son, who waved it in the air, Hicks said. The children walked away.
On Thursday, Jackson went to the school to reportedly check the temperature of his girlfriend’s son’s classroom, Hicks said.
While at the school, people who saw the incident at the football field recognized Jackson and told school administrators about the gun.
Sheriff’s deputies were notified and approached Jackson about bringing a weapon to the football game, Hicks said. Jackson denied owning a weapon but later admitted he had the BB gun with him at the game.
Jackson was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count each of illegal carrying of a weapon on school property, aggravated assault and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
