Police: Man killed in South Amite shooting

Baton Rouge Police officials are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on South Amite Drive on Friday evening.

Police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said an unnamed male was shot in the chest at 16678 S. Amite Drive around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, McKneely said.

The victim’s identity was not released pending confirmation by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office and notification of his family.

McKneely said the homicide investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at [phone] or Crime Stoppers at [phone].
