Drawn together by the love of photography

Saturday was National Black Female Photographers Day in Baton Rouge, one of the 15 cities participating in a nationwide event to celebrate the art of photography and to encourage black women to consider careers in the profession.

A handful of Baton Rouge-area photographers gathered for a photo walk through downtown Saturday.

Photographers, including Jim Byron, Nicole Williams, Jerrold Oatis, Barbie Vallot and Sharon Elliot, took photos outside the Old Arsenal Museum adjacent to the State Capitol.

The event was open to everyone — from students to seasoned professionals — of all genders and backgrounds.

Yes, it would. That's a given. I would love to see a "National Beige Male Photographer's Day", also.

If it was open to everyone, why was it called National Black Female Photographer's Day? If there was a National White Man Photographer's Day would that not be considered discrimination?
