CANKTON — Authorities in St. Landry Parish arrested a 32-year-old man in the July 28 shooting death of Joseph Dean in Lafayette.
Carl J. Phillips, 610 Goldman St., Lafayette, was arrested during the early morning hours Thursday after the Sheriff’s Office’s S.W.A.T. unit, Cankton Police Department, Lafayette Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force converged on a trailer in Cankton, according to a news release.
Phillips was arrested without incident, the release said.
Phillips has since been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, the release said.
Witnesses told police that Phillips shot Dean, 20, once in the chest while the two men were arguing, police have said.
Afterward, witnesses said Phillips left in a gold-colored vehicle, police have said.
