Pickup breaks doors and shoves pews at Holden church

Someone backed a pickup truck into the St. James Baptist Church in Holden early Friday morning, a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.

The driver left behind a taillight and a gas cap that investigators believe belonged to a three-quarter-ton Dodge diesel pickup as the truck burst through the doors and shoved pews to the front of the church, spokeswoman Lori Steele said.

A church member reported the damage around 8 a.m. Friday, but no witnesses have come forward, Steele said Friday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office has sent the light and cap to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, she said.

“It appears the truck intentionally rammed into the church,” Steele said. “This does not appear to be an accident.”

Anyone having information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (225) 686-2241.

i love how you deleted my comment then re-wrote the story correcting most of the mistakes. it appears now there was a driver and it was not the truck acting on its own. well, lori steele may need to be convinced. journalism 101.
