Alligator buyers robbed of $6,500, cellphones

MORGAN CITY — St. Mary Parish sheriff’s investigators are looking for three men accused of taking $6,500 and cellphones from alligator buyers in Morgan City.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Traci Landry said three alligator buyers were winding up a day of purchases shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday when a dark gray four-door car arrived. Two passengers, one armed with a gun, got out and ordered the buyers onto the ground.

Both wore blue jeans and had blue bandannas over their faces.

They took two cellphones and a briefcase holding more than $6,500 cash. The dead alligators at the scene were left alone.

Investigators ask anyone who may have seen the bandits or their car around the time of the holdup to call investigators at (985) 384-1622.
