College honored for exam passage rate
LAFAYETTE — South Louisiana Community College received a merit award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting for its 92 percent graduate rate on the certified surgical technologist exam, the college announced in a news release Wednesday.
Schools must earn at least a 90 percent pass rate to be eligible for the award.
The award cycle was from Aug. 1, 2011, through July 31, the news release said.
The certification is required for employment within many local, state and national health care organizations and it is widely recognized as the top credential in the field, the release said.
The surgical technology program is offered at the Ardoin Building on SLCC’s Lafayette campus.
