Port Allen man killed in 3-vehicle wreck on La. 30

Louisiana State Police identified on Tuesday a Port Allen man killed a day earlier in a three-vehicle crash on La. 30 in Ascension Parish.

Randy Craig, 56, of Port Allen, was pronounced dead Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales due to his injuries in the crash, troopers said in a news release.

Craig was driving a 1988 Ford pickup west on Robert Wilson Road, but failed to stop about 5 p.m. at La. 30 north of Interstate 10, troopers said.

The pickup went into the path of a 2005 Dodge Durango headed north on La. 30. The Durango hit the pickup on the driver-side door, troopers said.

The pickup was then hit by a southbound 2012 Toyota pickup and came to a rest on the driver’s side, troopers said.

Craig and Talana Walker-Collins, 32, of Gonzales, driver of the Durango, were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales for treatment of their injuries. Two children in Collins’ Durango received minor injuries, troopers said.

The driver of the Toyota, Grady Thigpin, 26, of St. Amant, was not injured, troopers said.

Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash, but blood samples from Walker-Collins and Craig have been sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis, troopers said.

Thigpin, who voluntarily submitted a breath sample, had no detectable alcohol in his system, troopers said.
