Overturned truck shuts down U.S. 190 near Walker
WALKER -- U.S. 190 was shut down for several hours Monday after a tank truck carrying gasoline turned over east of Walker shortly before 5 p.m., authorities said.
A small amount of gasoline leaked from a cap at the top of the trailer’s tank, but the tank did not rupture, said Mark Harrell, the director of the Livingston Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness.
Diesel also leaked from the truck’s fuel tank, but that has been contained, Harrell said
Hazardous material specialists and a wrecker were en route, he said.
Walker Police Chief Marliam Lee said the truck apparently turned over when trying to enter the parking lot of the Best Stop convenience store.
No injuries were reported.
Authorities said U.S. 190 traffic was being re-routed at Satsuma Road and at North Corbin Road.
Shortly after 7 p.m., Louisiana State Police sent out a news alert telling drivers to avoid U.S. 190 between Walker and Satsuma for three hours while the truck’s tank is drained.
