Police investigate wreck involving train
VACHERIE — An 87-year-old Vacherie man injured Wednesday in a collision between his vehicle and a train was transported a New Orleans hospital, State Police reported.
Melissa Matey, a State Police spokeswoman, said troopers were called to investigate a collision between a vehicle and a train at a grade crossing on La. 20 Wednesday morning.
The driver of the vehicle, Pierre Reulet, was taken to the Trauma Center at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans for treatment of moderate injuries, Matey said.
La. 20 was blocked for about 20 minutes after the accident, Matey said.
Investigators believe that Reulet attempted to drive around the crossing’s safety barricades in an effort to beat the train, she said. The crash remains under investigation, and Matey said charges against Reulet were pending.
