Woman dies in Baker car crash
BAKER — A 50-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon when the car she was driving pulled in front of a van traveling north on La. 19, Police Chief Mike Knaps said.
Jacqueline Murray, who lived on Arkansas Street a few blocks from the accident scene, was pronounced dead at Lane Regional Medical Center after the 2:50 p.m. collision.
Murray’s 19-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son, along with two people in the van, were transported to area hospitals with moderate injuries, Knaps said.
Murray was the first person killed in a traffic accident in Baker since February 2008, the police chief said.
Surveillance video at a service station showed that Murray’s Chevrolet pulled out of Coolidge Street onto La. 19 in front of the van, whose driver attempted to brake but could not stop in time, Knaps said.
“Speed was not a factor,” Knaps said.
