A 48-year-old man was indicted Thursday in the May 25 shooting deaths of his estranged wife and her male friend outside the friend’s Baker home.
An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury charged Alfred William Scales, of 12920 Middlewood Drive, Baker, with two counts of second-degree murder in the slaying of Jamie Davenport and her friend, James Ledell Brown, 44, in the front yard of Brown’s home at 5366 Thomas Road.
Scales and Davenport, 33, had been together since about 2007, and married a few years later, Davenport’s sister, Cassandra Stirgus, has said. Davenport had left Scales about three months before the shooting, she said.
A second-degree murder conviction would carry an automatic sentence of life in prison.
The case has been assigned to state District Judge Lou Daniel.
