BESE to postpone White evaluation

In a change of plans, Louisiana’s top school board will delay its first formal job evaluation of state Superintendent of Education John White, officials said Wednesday.

Penny Dastugue, president of the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, said the change of plans — the issue is on the board’s Aug. 14-15 agenda — does not reflect any controversy.

Dastugue said the panel opted to delay the job review until January, when White will reach his one-year anniversary rather than assessing his work after just seven months.

White, who is paid $275,000 per year, is in charge of recommending and carrying out policies that affect about 700,000 public school students statewide.
