One man was shot and killed late Monday while another man was shot and wounded early Tuesday in similar but separate robberies, a police spokesman said.
In both incidents two men approached their victims, robbed or tried to rob them, then shot them, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
Police arrested two Port Allen men in the nonfatal shooting and are looking for two black teens in the fatal shooting, McKneely said. Police do not believe the shootings are connected, he said.
The fatal shooting happened just after 10:30 p.m. Monday outside the Pueblo Apartments at 3225 Wyoming St., near LSU, McKneely said.
Travis Holland, 24, was shot during an attempted robbery just before 10:30 p.m. after he stepped outside his apartment to smoke a cigarette, McKneely said.
Holland stumbled inside his home and fell to the floor after he was shot, McKneely said. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
A similar incident occurred almost five hours later in the parking lot of the Chevron service station at 501 St. Ferdinand St. near downtown, McKneely said.
Two men — later identified as Phillip Carter, 21, and Robert Pierson, 17, both of Port Allen — approached a 43-year-old tractor trailer driver as he was unloading fuel into the gas station’s underground tanks, McKneely said.
The men robbed the driver of his wallet and then shot him twice in the leg before fleeing on foot, McKneely said. Police found the shooting victim just after 3 a.m. lying on the ground next to his tractor trailer, McKneely said. The man was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police used K-9 police dogs to help them locate Carter and Pierson, who were found in the Beauregard neighborhood nearby, McKneely said.
Carter, 250 N. 14th St., Port Allen, and Pierson, 5109 Rebelle Lane, Port Allen, were booked into Parish Prison on one count each of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and resisting arrest.
Anyone with information about the robbery and fatal shooting is asked to call police at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP.
