Call center set up for bus route information
LAFAYETTE — The Lafayette Parish School System has opened a call center for parents to obtain bus stop information, a news release says.
Parents may call (337) 521-7433 or visit www.lpssonline.com for details about their children’s bus options. The call center will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
No bus routes have changed since last year, so only students attending new schools should need to seek bus route information, said Bill Samec, district transportation director.
Lafayette Parish has 289 buses operating more than 700 routes and transporting about 17,000 students every school day, adding up to more than 6 million bus rides per year.
Cancer screenings offered free Saturday
LAFAYETTE — Local dermatologists will offer free full-body skin screenings from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic, 1317 Jefferson St., a news release says.
The screenings are open to anyone and there are no eligibility requirements. Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The screening is a partnership between the American Academy of Dermatology, local dermatologists, the LSU Family Medicine program physicians, the American Cancer Society and the Region IV Coalition of the Louisiana Cancer Control Program. Referrals for follow-up services will be offered.
